Here’s some good news!!
Provisional government figures released on Friday show that total carbon emissions fell by 8.6% in 2009.
The government said that this was mostly the result of the economic downturn, but added that the figures showed the UK is “clearly on track” to meet it’s target of a 22% reduction (compared with 1990 levels) by 2012 — just two years away.
The switch from generating electricity using coal was also cited as a reason for the fall, but public sector emissions which have fallen by 25% since 1990 fell by a tenth of one percent last year.
