Welcome

Welcome to Transition Town Farnham.

We are a newly-forming group of local people, part of a movement that is spreading across the UK and around the world.

“Transition Towns” work to make their local areas more ‘resilient’ to the effects of climate change and ‘peak oil’. (Peak oil is basically the idea that as we are now starting to run out of oil and gas, prices will continue to rise, and this will have many, significant, knock-on effects on the way we live. You can find out more here.)

Transition Towns work to reduce the negative effects of these changes, and increase the positive ones.

We are looking for people who would like to to find out more and possibly get involved. We will be holding a kick-off event on 11 September at the Maltings, where we will show two short films that explain what Peak Oil is, how it will change our lives, and what we can do about it. Details are given below.

In the meantime you can use these pages to find out more about Peak Oil and the Transition Movement.

If you can’t come along on the 11th but are interested, please do contact us.

If you know someone else who would be interested, please help to spread the word.

Thank you.

    Hi Abigail,

Thanks for your note and I am glad you enjoyed the evening.

You asked about where to buy the two films.

THE END OF SUBURBIA, I bought from Amazon. (If you google you can find other suppliers.)
    The amazon link is http://www.amazon.co.uk/End-Suburbia-Depletion-Collapse-American/dp/B000VXUV5A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1221219156&sr=1-1

POWER OF COMMUNITY is available in several places and I think I got mine from the makers at
    http://www.communitysolution.org/poc.html

You also asked about whether students at the UCA are aware of Transition Farnham.
I did go to the UCA and leave posters and leaflets, but since no-one from there turned up I have no idea about how many of the students (or staff) got to see them.

I think one of the next steps of our group is going to be to start to reach out into the rest of the Farnham community to raise awareness. UCA is likely to be one of the key groups to talk to, and I would welcome your ideas/offers on how we could best do that. And indeed what other groups we need to start getting in touch with.

    Warm regards,
    Finn

Thank you very much for the introductory meeting at the Maltings. The Transition Handbook is facinating and the only way to go as far as I can see!
I had to leave early- is there any way of getting hold of the two films? Are the students at UCA aware of this group?
    Best wishes,
    Abigail.
