National Trust to give Land for Allotments

The National Trust, one of the biggest landowners in the country, has asked all its properties to identify potential sites to be used as allotments.

This radical move is part of a new initiative to encourage self sufficiency and healthy eating, in which the charity is also asking older people to come forward to teach people the “lost skills” of gardening.

The National Trust has identified ‘local food‘ is one of its top four priorities in 2009. The other three are climate change, our natural world, and cultural heritage.
