Home-grown energy

husk powerThere’s a company in India which has found a way to get electricity to remote vilages.

The problem is that the villages are so remote, and the demand for electricity so low, that it’s not economic to install pylons.

The company realised that amongst all these villages were large piles of rice husks — waste from the growing of rice.

They invented a generator that burned these husks, and generated more than enough energy for the villages’ needs.

I wonder if there is an equivalent energy source that we could use in the UK, to achieve the same results?
