Surrey County Council have been in touch with us again, asking us to promote their ‘Love Food, Hate waste’ and composting projects.
Apparently, it costs the council £7.6million pounds a year to dispose of our food waste — and that’s our money too — so it make sense to reduce what we waste and dispose of it differently.
So, they’ve put together a bunch of further facts, ideas for cooking with leftovers, tips and advice on reducing food waste, and more facts on food waste at www.lovefoodsurrey.com.
You can also help to reduce food waste (and help your own garden) by making compost. You can get a reduced-price compost bin (£39rrp down to £14) from the Surrey Waste Partnership — a partnership between Surrey County Council and the 11 district and borough councils. If you want one of those you can phone 0844 571 4444, or visit the website http://www.surreycc.gov.uk/sccwebsite/sccwspages.nsf/LookupWebPagesByTITLE_RTF/Home+composting?opendocument.
