North Sea to become key energy source again

On Thursday this week the UK and Norwegian governments announced that they would increase to re-establish the North Sea as one of the world’s leading energy sources.

Both governments recognise the “growing potential for North Sea marine renewable energy projects to bring new investment and green job opportunities and to strengthen energy security in the region”.

That’s wind farms to you and me, maybe some tidal energy (though the potential for that is stronger in the strong currents around Scotland), plus an undersea electricity grid to enable us to use our wind energy to pump water back up Norway’s hydroelectric dams (when it’s windy here), and provide us with Norway’s hydroelectric  power (when it’s not windy here).
