Flying bionic penguin

OK, bear with me on this one.

This video is so incredible I just had to post it here. The narration is a little clunky — think 1970s corporate sales video — but the images are incredible.

A robot penguin that swims. And another than flies.

The link to Transition?

Well, as the narrator says at the beginning of the video, “Nature shows us the way — maximum energy performance with minimum energy consumption.”

If we can apply these principles more widely then we can not only design penguin-ike vehicles that can swim backwards, and fly. We can also design an economy, a culture, that not only does more with less energy, but also gives us greater quality of life.

Enjoy:

(There’s also an “interactive wall” and other inventions, but its difficult to see applications for most of them — yet.)
