What causes waste in the building industry?

This is an important question, because if we knew how to cut waste then we could make our money go further, and reduce some of the negative impacts we are having on the world, and improve the living conditions of the other seven (nine?) billion people on the planet.

Hmmmm. That all sounds a little bit worthy, doesn’t it?

So, get yourself a cup of tea, sit down, and prepare yourself for 17 minutes of a man with a funny moustache showing you photos of the fabulous houses he has created. While he also tells you about the philosophical ideas that underpin the reasons why we create waste, and what kind of thinking would enable us to create joy and individuality instead.

(Oh, and there’s a two-person “recreational” bathtub, and a house design based around a can of Budweiser.)

    I love it!
When he started speaking he looked like just another Womble, picking up the pieces others leave behind. But there’s more to this turkey. He wants us to be creative with our own ‘oldings’ and take responsibility for the whole production run of an item, including the warped planks, instead of returning them to the shop, as is our right. If the plank is warped, find or create somewhere only a warped one will fit perfectly. Or imperfectly.
    And the talk is well-delivered.
