The Greenland ice sheets are melting faster than expected, a Nasa-sponsored survey has found.
The result could be a rise in sea levels of over a foot by 2050. (Doesn’t sound much, but it’s bad news for London with a spring tide and an easterly wind.)
And as this article from 2007 says (and there are others on the web) “an acceleration in the melting of the Greenland ice cap, could, in fact, play a key role in the future stability of ocean circulation and climate change in the whole North Atlantic region.”
In other words the climate looks on track to change much more quickly than we anticipated.
I hesitate to put this story up here because the core of the Transition Town movement is about positive change.
Climate change and peak oil are inevitable. They will change the way we live. If we act fast enough we do have the opportunity to change our lives for the better.
