10MW tidal power station gets Scottish government’s approval

The Scottish Government has given the go-ahead for plans to build ten underwater turbines between the islands of Islay and Jura.

The turbines, located in a kilometre-wide “canyon” with one of the strongest and most reliable tidal streams off the UK coast, will provide enough electricity for 10,000 homes — that’s twice the number on the islands, plus the distilleries as well.
