Some trees more equal than others

A study in Torbay has shown that big trees in cities and towns should be valued more highly than small and medium-sized trees, because they absorb more carbon and filter more pollution from the air.

Apparently older larger trees such as ash, sycamore, evergreen oak and native oaks (and presumably London Planes) are more valuable than the smaller, prettier cherries and rowans that were used to replace them in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

So, I reckon we need a few more ash, sycamore and oaks to ease pollution in central Farnham then!
