Bolivia bans cars for a day

Bolivia has held its first “National Day of the Pedestrian” today.

All motorised vehicles, including public transport, have been banned in cities across the country.

The stated purpose is to raise awareness about the environment (at a time when President Evo Morales’ government is facing criticism over plans to build a highway through the Amazon rainforest).

Criticism or not, I didn’t see anybody holding a “National Day of the Pedestrian” five years ago.

The world is changing.
