Host: Jae Mather (Sustainability Carbon Free Group)
Background on Host:
Jae has worked in the environmental and sustainability sectors for over 10 years in numerous countries across the globe. Originally from Vancouver, Jae holds a BA in Geography from Simon Fraser University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Decision Making from the Open University.
With a background in UK and EU government, sustainable business support, mainstream business and environmental technology he has become a consultant in global environmental issues, eco-enterprise, environmental technology and sustainability. His extensive project, service management and consultancy experience gained in the UK and abroad have provided him with a strong background in Strategy Development and Planning, CSR, Resource Efficiency, Environmental Auditing and Carbon Management.
He developed an award winning eco-cleaning sustainable procurement policy for a local government authority in the UK that was used as an example of best practice within the European Commission. This policy is a practical example of how sustainability can be integrated into a mainstream business, at no additional cost, with huge environmental and social benefit.
Jae is interested in effecting change; he co-founded the Carbon Free Group, a Member of the Institute for Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and the Goldsmith University of East London Attainable Utopias group. He believes that sustainable business is just good business.
This interesting course is being held in one of the only fully functional low carbon retrofit show homes in the South of England. Oak Tree House is an existing property that has been renovated with a wide range of low carbon technology, energy efficiency measures and renewable technology. Whilst taking your course at the house, you will have the opportunity to look around the property and learn what you could do in your own home to further reduce your carbon footprint or find out more about a renewable technology.
